Salviati was born more than 160 years ago in Venice, in 1859, when the Vicenza-born lawyer Antonio Salviati, captivated by the precious mosaics of the Basilica of San Marco and fascinated by the art of Murano glassmaking, decided to begin producing mosaics and Murano glass objects. His ambitious, far-sighted goal was to breathe new life into an art of Murano glassmaking that had been in decline for decades.
Salviati's story continues into the modern era, defining the innovative style that has always set it apart. The company took part in various international exhibitions and, in 1962, won design's highest accolade, the Compasso d'Oro award, for the Marco vase designed by architect Sergio Asti.
Since its founding, Salviati has sought new forms of expression in Murano glass, interpreting and updating its inexhaustible magic in an ongoing interplay between liquid and solid matter.
