Ugo La Pietra

He lives and works in Milan. He has always described himself as a “researcher” in the visual arts and communication. He has shared his research through numerous exhibitions in Italy and abroad. He has curated various exhibitions at the Triennale di Milano, the Venice Biennale, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Lyon, the FRAC Museum in Orléans, the Ceramics Museum in Faenza and the Ragghianti Foundation in Lucca.
He won the Compasso d'Oro for Research in 1979 and the Compasso d'Oro for Career Achievement in 2016. His research work in architecture and design has led him to develop themes such as “La casa telematica” (MoMA in New York, 1972 – Fiera di Milano, 1983), “Rapporto tra Spazio reale e Spazio virtuale” (Triennale di Milano, 1979, 1992), “La casa neoeclettica” (Abitare il Tempo, 1990), and “Cultura Balneare” (Centro Culturale Cattolica, 1985/95). Through his works, research, writing and teaching he has always championed a design charged with meaning, in favour of a “territorial design” against internationalist design.
