Karbony

Karbony is the first Made in Italy brand of furnishing solutions made from carbon fibre. Born from an idea by Carlo Cappellotto and the result of years of research and experimentation, Karbony is the outcome of an unprecedented encounter between a material, carbon, and the disciplines that give it form and structure: design and architecture. It marks the birth of a new project, the first and only one of its kind, with many technical and creative possibilities, shaping spaces for interior and exterior design.

The surprising lightness of the material reduces the mass of every Karbony architecture, while their lattice structure lightens the weight even further. Compared with a solid structure, a Karbony product is unique because it is even lighter, while its technical characteristics remain the same.

The entire production process is done by hand, from the drawing on paper to the making on the workbench. Only the skill of the hand, unwinding the thread along the designed path, can manage the creative potential of carbon. It is the hand that governs the measurements, weaves the textures, masters the proportions of the shapes and looks after the finishes, making every product unique. The result is a furniture collection whose pieces take centre stage through a fascinating play of shadows, textures and weaves.

Thanks to the extreme strength inherent in the raw material, Karbony products are long-lasting and resistant to the most extreme weather conditions, to certain chemical agents and to heavy stress. A further advantage is sustainability: the technology used reduces production waste to just a few centimetres of thread. In addition to reducing fuel consumption for transport, the lightness ensures lower greenhouse gas emissions and greater safety for people. The low weight makes handling easier and simplifies assembly. Added to this is the durability of carbon fibre, with minimal or no maintenance required for the structure of Karbony products, which keep their quality intact over time.

A filter between rooms

Dense in its weave, the thread bounces from one side of the perimeter to the other: Arcoteso acts as a filter and screen to separate spaces, and offers a light, elegant gesture of welcome. Karbony makes its pieces by hand at the Fabbrica Saccardo in Schio, in the province of Vicenza: the carbon threads are soaked in resin, woven by hand around a mould and left to harden in an oven. Every piece can be reproduced industrially yet remains unique, is extremely light and needs minimal or no maintenance.
