Martinelli Luce

The brand

Martinelli Luce

Martinelli Luce was founded in 1950, in the heart of Lucca, from an idea by Elio Martinelli, one of the most important lighting designers of the 1960s and 70s. From the very beginning the company has stood out for the creative culture and design originality that run through every piece, and over the years it has become a reference point for Italian design around the world.

The company meets the varied needs of residential projects with a wide range of products suited to both refined and everyday, functional lifestyles, translating innovation into different contexts and settings.

Essential and dynamic, Martinelli lamps are a perfect combination of rigour, functionality, technology and research, and draw on conceptual archetypes that keep them immune to passing trends. In two words: iconic and timeless.

Its aesthetic language, inspired by nature and the purity of geometric forms, goes hand in hand with a strong drive for innovation and experimentation. This has led to numerous creations that have won internationally significant awards, including the Compasso d'Oro.

The challenge Martinelli Luce sets itself is one of constant change: always seeking new points of view, inspiring people's creativity and curiosity so they can see the ordinary with new eyes. Advanced technology is the company's strength, but what sets it apart is its mastery of making, a craftsman's calling constantly cultivated and refined that gives its designs vitality and momentum. Every creation, whether a table, a chair or a bookcase, is the result of a synergy between creativity, advanced technology and artisan skill, elements that become an inimitable added value.

Designed in 1965 by Gae Aulenti, Pipistrello is one of the most iconic lamps in the history of Italian design and still represents a perfect balance of innovation, elegance, and functionality.

Produced by Martinelli Luce, it is distinguished by its characteristic opaline methacrylate diffuser, which evokes the silhouette of a bat's wings – a detail that gives it an unmistakable and timeless scenic presence.

Thanks to its versatile and contemporary design, Pipistrello finds its place in residential and contract settings, illuminating tables, desks, consoles, and living areas with personality. The diffused and enveloping light helps to create welcoming and sophisticated atmospheres, enhancing the quality of the spaces.
