Il Fanale

It was 1979 when, in a small workshop on the outskirts of Treviso, Fausto Dalla Torre and his wife Luisa decided to combine their passion for lighting with master craftsmanship. This is how Il Fanale was born: a company whose very reason for being is the production of top-quality lamps, and whose story is written every day through products that enter people’s homes and lives.

Distributed in more than 40 countries worldwide, the company has distinguished itself through its Italian know-how, carried forward by people guided by the same ideals: passion for their work, quality and a bond with the local area.

The choice of noble materials that represent tradition, such as brass, copper and glass, combined with a special oxidation process – whose formula is still handed down within the family today – gives life to true works of art and light with a unique, inimitable appearance. Production, entirely Italian, combines traditional techniques with innovative technologies to create timeless products with strong design content.

Every creation is the result of a perfect fusion of lighting design, craftsmanship and technology, and is a tribute to the unmistakable Italian stylistic tradition.

Over the years, Il Fanale has been able to enhance its great craft tradition while constantly transforming itself, researching and experimenting with new stylistic concepts. This evolution of the brand gave rise to Torremato, the ideas lab that marks a new creative path in the world of Il Fanale, with the aim of bringing designers’ unconventional projects to life through strong, primordial materials, mostly natural and eco-friendly.

Pliè by Il Fanale is a wall lamp in natural brass designed by Paolo Dell’Elce. It offers a modern reinterpretation of the traditional conical diffuser: the hand-pleated brass creates a wavy surface reminiscent of the full circle skirts of elegant 1950s women’s dresses.

Hand-pleated brass

Compact and romantic in appearance, Pliè can be used on its own or in series to create lighting compositions on the wall. Paolo Dell’Elce, a designer born in 1983 who specialises in product, furniture and lighting design, has received, among other awards, an Honourable Mention at the 2014 Compasso d’Oro and a Red Dot Award; since 2015 he has worked with David Chipperfield Architects. Il Fanale was founded in 1979 on the outskirts of Treviso, from the workshop set up by Fausto Dalla Torre and Luisa Martin, and makes its lamps entirely in Italy, working brass, iron, copper and glass by hand.
