Ruspa by Martinelli Luce is a historic table lamp designed by Gae Aulenti, giving direct and indirect light, made up of an adjustable arm and a head.

Inspired by the machine it is named after

Its name, Italian for excavator, recalls the machine that inspired it: the combination of the arm's vertical movement and the head clearly evokes an excavator. The arm, articulated on the base, carries two independently rotating reflectors, so the light can be direct or indirect depending on how the lamp is positioned. Martinelli Luce, a Lucca company founded in the 1950s and now led by Emiliana Martinelli and her son Marco, remains firmly rooted in Tuscany, where it produces its lamps.

Martinelli Luce

The brand

Martinelli Luce

Martinelli Luce was founded in 1950 in the heart of Lucca, from the vision of Elio Martinelli, one of the most important lighting designers of the 1960s and 1970s. From the very beginning, the company has stood out for the creative culture and originality of design that run through every creation and, over the years, it has become a benchmark for Italian design worldwide.

The company meets the varied needs of residential projects with a wide range of products suited both to the most refined lifestyles and to everyday, functional ones, translating innovation into different settings and environments.

Essential and dynamic, Martinelli lamps are a perfect combination of rigour, functionality, technology and research, and draw on conceptual archetypes that make them immune to passing trends. In a word: iconic and timeless.

Their aesthetic language, inspired by nature and by the purity of geometric shapes, goes hand in hand with a strong commitment to innovation and experimentation. This has led to a number of creations that have won major international awards, such as the Compasso d’Oro.

The challenge Martinelli Luce sets itself is one of constant change: always seeking new points of view and inspiring people’s creativity and curiosity, so that they can see what seems ordinary to them with new eyes.
