(W)hole by Fratelli Boffi is a designer storage unit designed by Pietro Ferruccio Laviani in 2012, paying tribute to the delicacy and harmony of the Louis XV style. Sinuous curves, rich curls and brass decorations inspired by natural forms are lightened by a surreal element: a hole.

A hole into a dreamlike world

At the centre of the piece opens a perforated cone in lacquered wood, which looks like the gateway to a visionary world. The Emperador marble top, with its veining and varying shades of colour, instead takes the eye back to the past. Pietro Ferruccio Laviani, born in Cremona in 1960 and a graduate in Architecture from the Politecnico di Milano, where he studied under Achille Castiglioni and Marco Zanuso, has been art director of Kartell since 1991. Fratelli Boffi was founded in 1928 in Lentate sul Seveso, in Brianza, from the cabinetmaking and carving tradition started by Luigi Boffi in the early twentieth century, and reinterprets classic style with irony and eclecticism.
