The brand
Fratelli Boffi
Good Vibrations Low by Fratelli Boffi is a designer low sideboard in oak designed by Pietro Ferruccio Laviani in 2013. Its shape is deliberately “out of phase”, as if the piece had been distorted by a strong jolt or swept by an oscillating movement.
Tradition and irony in carved wood
Good Vibrations alters traditional decoration by relying on the ancient art of wood carving and on craftsmanship, with subtle references to distant countries and oriental motifs. The result is an ironic play between different languages and cultures. The design also exists in a tall version, Good Vibrations: it is this version that was exhibited at “Thrill of Deception” in Munich and at “Le mobilier d’architectes 1960-2020” in Paris, and that is part of the permanent collection of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. Pietro Ferruccio Laviani, born in Cremona in 1960 and a graduate in Architecture from the Politecnico di Milano, where he studied under Achille Castiglioni and Marco Zanuso, has been art director of Kartell since 1991. Fratelli Boffi was founded in 1928 in Lentate sul Seveso, in Brianza, from the cabinetmaking and carving tradition started by Luigi Boffi in the early twentieth century, and reinterprets classic style with irony and eclecticism.
